Spring 2002 Course Math 525, Section C671, 3 credit hour "Introduction to complex analysis" TR, 4:15P-5:30P, LD265 Instructor: Paul Bleher Textbook: J. W. Brown and R. V. Churchill, Complex Variables and Applications, 6th ed., McGraw--Hill, Inc., New York e.a., 1996. Recommended calculator: Texas Instruments TI 35X or TI 36X SOLAR, or other scientific calculator. Prerequisites: A grade no lower than a C in MATH 261 and 262 (or equivalent). Attendance: All students are expected to attend all classes and all exams. Homework. There will be daily homework assignments. No credit will be given for homework, but as a rule quiz problems will be taken from the assigned homework. Grading: Final course grades are determined by quizzes, bonus problems, in-class exams, and a final exam. Quizzes. There will be 11 quizzes throughout the semester at the rate approximately 1 quiz per week. Each quiz will be announced at least 1 class prior to the day of the quiz, will be 15 minutes long, will be at the end of the class, and will cover assigned homework. The top 10 quiz scores will comprise 25\% of the final course grade. In-Class Exams. There will be 4 in-class exams throughout the semester. Each exam will be 1 hour 15 minutes long. The total of all 4 exam scores will comprise 50\% of the final course grade. Final Exam. The final exam will be given on Thursday, May 2, from 8:00P-10:00P in Room LD265. The final exam will be comprehensive and the final exam score will comprise 25\% of the final course grade. The scale for final course grade is A: 90--100\%, B: 80--90\%, C: 65--80\%, D: 50--65\%, F: 0--50\%. |
