Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Students
Math Placement
Do I need to take a math placement test?
If you have never completed a math course in college, or if it has been more than two years since you successfully completed a college math course, you will need to take the math placement test. The result of the placement test will help ensure that you register for the appropriate math course, one for which you have the appropriate math background and are ready to succeed in. If you are a student NEW to IUPUI and are required to participate in orientation, you will schedule your math placement test through the Orientation Services online reservation system. If you are a current IUPUI student who needs to schedule the math placement test, please call the Testing Center directly at 317-278-2281. The Testing Center also accepts walk-ins during non-peak times. Visit the Testing Center for their current schedule. For other questions, call the math department at 317-274-6918.

Why did I receive an error message when I tried registering for a math course?

holds on your record (check the main page of your Student Center). Next, in
order to register for a math course you must
fall into one of the following two categories:
- a) You completed the prerequisite course with the minimum required grade within the last two years, or;
- b) You tested into the course directly after taking the IUPUI math placement test.
How do I drop or add a course?
See the Registrar's website for instructions on adding or dropping a course.

Transfer Courses
How do I know if a course I took at a different college will transfer to IUPUI?
To start with, check the IUPUI Office of Admissions PACE database. If your course is not listed here, you will need to check with the specific IUPUI department and provide a course description and syllabus. For details on Ivy Tech courses transferrable to IUPUI, visit the Passport website.
A transfer course is listed as "undistributed" on my IUPUI transcript. What does this mean and how can I have it distributed?
An undistributed course is a course that has not been matched to a specific IUPUI course. You should first obtain the description and syllabus for the course you took. The more information you have, the easier this process will be. Contact the IUPUI department in which you think the equivalent course resides. Most likely you will need to bring the course information directly to that department for evaluation.
