Services for Instructors

Office Space

Office space for part-time instructors is potentially available in UL 1179. This room is equipped with computers, a copier, and a telephone (278-2406). Please let Patti Holt know if you would like space in UL 1179.

Textbooks and Supplies

Desk copies of all required mathematics textbooks are maintained in the office for your use each semester and can be obtained from the office staff. Because there are a limited number of desk copies, please return your copy at the end of the semester if you will not be teaching that course during the next semester. Supplies such as overhead pens, transparencies, etc., are available in the main office.

Duplication

Course materials to be duplicated may be left for front desk staff. Complete and attach a work request form in the front office, and place it in the yellow "To Be Copied" folder on the top shelf of the file cabinet in the front office. Make sure your directions are explicit; e.g., if the "collate" or "staple" blanks are not checked, the work will not be collated or stapled. A MINIMUM OF 2 FULL WORKING DAYS IS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE THE WORK, but last minute requests will be accommodated if possible. More notice may be needed during peak times such as the start of the semester, mid-term and finals week. Please note that no duplication, at department expense, is ever to be done at Copy Centers or on copy machines elsewhere on campus.

Audio/Visual Aids

Overhead projectors are automatically provided for every classroom. In addition, our office maintains computers for your use. For further help with your audio visual needs, check with the Math Department front desk.

Mail

Mailboxes have been assigned in the main office area. It is each instructor's responsibility to check at least once each week in person for messages and mail. Please do not call the office staff to check your mailbox for you.

Email

Each full-time instructor should maintain an email account with the Math Department. Please see Debbie Dailey and she will assign you an address on the Math Department server. In addition, all full-time instructors need to maintain an IUPUI computer account which allows access to IUPUI email, OneStart, and Oncourse.

Each part-time instructor should maintain an IUPUI email account. Instructions for setting up an IUPUI email account can be found on UITS's Account Management web page. In addition to the IUPUI email account, each part-time instructor will receive a math department email alias that will forward all math email to the instructors personal email account. It is up to the instructor to make sure the department has a current personal email account on file.

All email communication with students should be made only via your Math email account (full-time instructors) or your IUPUI email account (full- or part-time instructors). It is each instructor's responsibility to check these accounts daily.

See IUPUI's official email policy for further information.

Parking Permits

Instructors wanting to use University parking facilities must purchase a parking permit. Parking permits can be obtained from Parking Services (274-4232) in the southwest corner of the Vermont Street Garage; 1004 W. Vermont Street. A form confirming employment is required by Parking Services. This form can be obtained from Marilyn Baker in the Math Office. You can also obtain a permit on-line at the Parking Services' web site.

Buildings and Classrooms

Classrooms in the Science complex (SL and LD buildings) should normally be unlocked at all times. The only reason a classroom is locked is to protect valuable equipment. If you find your classroom locked after hours, call Campus Security (274-7911). They will send an officer to unlock the door for you. If you are scheduled in a classroom that is unsatisfactory in some way, please let Patti Holt know. For general facility needs after Math Department office hours, please call the CFS Communication and Customer Service Center line, 278-1900, for immediate service.

The Science Building hours are:

Monday - Thursday: 7:00 am - 10:00 pm

Friday: 7:00 am - 9:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm

The building is locked on all official holidays.

Orientation Sessions for Instructors

Before the beginning of each academic year the Department of Mathematical Sciences presents an orientation session. Its purpose is to provide information about policies and practices at IUPUI, characteristics of our students, and aspects of teaching. It is required that all Instructors attend the Fall orientation/workshop and the Spring workshop. This is our way to address concerns and keep current on best teaching practices for our student body. (All new faculty, all lecturers, instructors and teaching graduate students are expected to attend this orientation/workshop, and all other faculty are strongly encouraged to attend.) Additional course specific workshops may also be required for Associate Faculty teaching those courses.

Pay Dates

Pay dates for Associate Faculty are the last working day of each month, except the December check is always issued the first working day following January 1. For any issues related to payroll, please see Marilyn Baker in our department.

Faculty Development

The IUPUI Services and Centers for Faculty supports faculty, academic staff, and academic units in achieving their teaching, research, and service objectives. To facilitate professional development many workshops, conferences, seminars and other events are offered for both full-time and associate faculty. To learn more about their programs, you can contact them at 274-8880 or access the Services and Centers for Faculty website.
