All undergraduate math majors complete three semesters of calculus (Math 16300, 16400 and 26100), ordinary differential equations (Math 26600), and linear algebra (Math 35100 or 51100). Additional math requirements for the applied math option include MATH 41400, 42600 or 41700, 44400, and 51000, plus 12 credits of approved electives.
Students in the applied mathematics option complete 45 credit hours of mathematics, plus a 2 credit hour Capstone Experience. A total of 124 credit hours is required to complete the degree.
Career Options
Students with training in applied mathematics are employed in a wide variety of position in business, industry, and government. This option is also good preparation for graduate study in fields closely related to mathematics such as computer science, statistics, and engineering.
